The state of Uttar Pradesh is referred to as the sugar bowl of India. Uttar Pradesh ranks the highest position in the production of the sugar cane crop and it is the major cultivation along the wheat crop. The state has a large number of sugar mills in major cities like Bareilly, Meerut, Saharanpur, Sitapur, Buland Shahar. Sugarcane is a vital crop in India. As sugarcane is the raw material of various other products like sugar and jaggery. It has about 38.61% share in overall sugarcane production as per the year 2013-14. India stands at second position in the world in the production of sugarcane.

  • Hot and humid climates with a temperature of 21°C to 27°C and annual rainfall between 75cm to 100cm is suitable for the growth of sugarcane

  • Sugarcane is the main source and raw material of Sugar, Gur (Jaggery), Khansari and molasses
  • The major sugarcane-producing states in our country are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana
