While boarding an airplane, a passenger got hurt. The pilot showing promptness and concern, made arrangements to hospitalize the injured and so the plane started late by 30minutes. To reach the destination, 1500km away in time, the pilot increased the speed by 100km/hr. Calculate the original speed/hour of the plane in km/hr.

Step 1: Given parameters:

Consider the original speed of the plane be xkm/hr.

The increased speed of the plane will be (x+100)km/hr.

The total distance covered is 1500km.

Step 2: Calculate the time taken to reach the final destination

Calculate the time using the below expression given as:

Time=DistanceSpeed

Therefore, the time taken t1 to reach the destination at the original speed is given as:

t1=DistancecoveredOriginalspeedt1=1500x......1

Similarly, the time taken t2 to reach the destination at an increasing speed is given as:

t2=1500x+100......2

Step 3: Calculate the original speed of the train

It is given that due to some circumstances, the plane is late by 30minutes.

Convert minutes to hours

1hr=60minutes1minute=160hr30minutes=3060hr=12hr

Now, according to the question,

Substitute the values from equations (1) and (2).

t1-t2=12hr1500x-1500x+100=121500x+100-1500xxx+100=121500x+150000-1500xx2+100x=12150000x2+100x=12300000=x2+100xx2+100x-300000=0x2+600x-500x-300000=0xx+600-500x+600=0x-500x+600=0

Therefore,

x500=0orx=500

x+600=0orx=600

As speed cannot be negative. Thus, the original speed/hour of the plane is 500Km/hr.
