A tax officer who is accompanied by Revenue inspectors is known as a Tehsildar. They supervise the district Patwaris and are also responsible for collecting Land Revenue taxes from a tehsil or district.

Patwari

Patwari’s primary job is to measure the land and maintain land records. There are various names for Patwari in different states. They are known as Lekhpal in some states, in others Karamchari, Kanungo, or Village Officer.

Work of a Tehsildar

The main works of the Tehsildar are listed below.

  • Collecting land revenue
  • Providing caste certificates to the students
  • Keeping a track of the work done by the Patwari
  • Make sure that land records are kept safely.
