Kautilya was also known as Chanakya or Vishnugupta. He was the Prime Minister under the reign of Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Mauryan Empire. He was a statesman and philosopher who wrote a classic treatise on polity, Arthashastra. The Arthaśāstra is an ancient Indian Sanskrit treatise on statecraft, economic policy, and military strategy.
