Why did Mahatma Gandhi launch the 'Non-Cooperation movement'? How did this movement unite the country. Explain.
Mahatma Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation movement in 1921 with the aim of self-governance and accomplishing full independence from the British. The British rule was established in India with the cooperation of Indians, and Gandhiji wanted to withdraw it.
With the Non-cooperation movement, the Khilafat movement was taken up by the Muslims. So, both these movements united Hindus and Muslims. Besides, the movement also helped different social groups like immigrant labourers, zamindars, students, peasants, women and middle-class people. Hence, the moment helped in uniting the country.
