Why Do Organisms Need To Take Food?

Living organisms need the energy to sustain their life processes, and it can only be acquired through food. With the exception of plants (which are autotrophs), animals have to derive energy from other organic matter. These can range from producers such as plants to other organisms in the subsequent trophic levels. Hence, organisms need to take food for their growth and survival.
