Question

Why do meristematic tissues lack vacuoles?

Open in App
Solution

Meristematic tissues:

  1. Live cells in a range of shapes and sizes make up meristematic tissues.
  2. They lack a vacuole and have an enormous amount of cytoplasm.
  3. To create specialized structures like leaf and flower buds, root and shoot tips, and so forth, meristematic tissue cells divide quickly and constantly.
  4. The enormous amount of cytoplasm and relatively thin cell walls enable them to achieve faster and more consistent proliferation or repairment of the injured plant wound.
  5. This is the reason why meristematic cells lack vacuoles.
