Solution

Thermometer:

  1. A thermometer is a device that measures temperature by relying on the physical properties of different substances.
  2. There are two important components of it, the first that detects the temperature change and the second that communicates the detected temperature.
  3. It is suggested not to touch the bulb of the thermometer while taking a reading because the temperature of one's body may affect the actual reading.
  4. Due to the body temperature, the mercury may expand in the bulb and thus the result will be incorrect reading.

Therefore, we should not hold the thermometer by its bulb.
