Epidermis:

  1. The epidermis is the primary plant body's outermost layer.
  2. It is made up of a continuous layer of elongated, compactly packed cells.
  3. It's normally only one layer thick.
  4. Epidermal cells are parenchymatous, with a big vacuole and a little quantity of cytoplasm along the cell wall.

Importance of epidermis in plants:

  1. Provides protection against water loss.
  2. Regulates the process of gas exchange.
  3. The epidermis secretes metabolic compounds.
  4. Absorption of water and essential minerals.
  5. Protects from mechanical injury and invasion by parasitic fungi.
