Why is the maximum concentration of pesticides found in human beings?

Open in App
Solution

The maximum concentration of pesticides found in humans because of Biomagnification. Humans occupy a secondary or tertiary position in the food pyramid when they consume meat. With every increase in trophic level the amount of food consumed increases to meet the reduced energy needs. As more organisms are consumed from the lower trophic levels the amount of pesticides accumulating in the organism increases. This is because pesticides are not biodegradable neither are they eliminated as waste. At last, the pesticides get accumulate in the top trophic level (e.g. Humans).
