Solution
Atoms:
Atom is the smallest particle present in any chemical substance.
It consists of protons, neutrons and electrons.
Atoms are spherical in shape.
In the centre, the nucleus will be there and it contains protons and neutrons.
It is surrounded by electrons which revolve in a circular orbit.
Packing of atoms, molecules or ions:
In the packing of the atoms, molecules or ions, the constituent particles are considered to be in a spherical shape. So, they would not be arranged without any space.
There will be some space, these spaces are called voids.
The voids depend on the size of the atom, molecule or ions.
