  2. The base of the pyramid is always producers.
  3. Producers in the aquatic ecosystem are phytoplankton.
  4. The second trophic level is small fish.
  5. These small fish consume phytoplankton.
  6. Large fish consume small fish.
  7. The biomass increases as we progress towards a higher trophic level.
  8. Thus pyramid of biomass is inverted in the aquatic ecosystem.
