Question

Will the solution of sugar in distilled water conduct electricity?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A solution can only conduct electricity if it contains ions in significant numbers.
  2. Distilled water can ionize H2O to H+ and OH-, but the degree of ionization far lesser degree to conduct electricity.
  3. Adding SugarC12H22O11 to distilled water can also not conduct electricity as sugar does not dissociates into ions.

Therefore, sugar solution in distilled water cannot conduct electricity.
