Solution

Hard water:

  • Water with a high mineral ion content is referred to as hard water.
  • Hard water mostly contains calcium and magnesium ions.
  • Dry skin and hair can be caused by hard water.
  • Hard water is unsuitable for washing because soap lather is difficult to achieve.

Detergents:

  • Detergents are ammonium salts or sulfonates of long-chain carboxylic acids, however, they can't tell you if your water is hard or soft.
  • They do not react with calcium or magnesium to identify the nature of water, unlike soaps.
  • If soap dissolves easily in water, the water is soft, and vice versa.
  • Hard water, on the other hand, does not produce a good lather, making soap washing more difficult.
