Question

Write a chemical reaction to affect the following transformation: 3 Nitrobromobenzene to 3 Nitrobenzoic Acid

Open in App
Solution

Chemical reaction:

  • A chemical response takes place while one or extra chemical substances are modified into one or extra different chemical substances.
  • Examples: Iron and Oxygen combining to make rust, Vinegar and Baking soda combine to make Sodium Acetate, Carbon Dioxide, and Water.

Reaction to convert 3 Nitrobromobenzene to 3 Nitrobenzoic Acid:

  • In this procedure, 3 Nitrobromobenzene react with Mg dissolved in the ether.
  • Ether is used as solvent due to the fact it is aprotic and could completely dissolve the magnesium ion.
  • As the Mg attaches to the halide, a Grignard reagent is formed.
  • Following that, carbon dioxide is used in the form of dry ice to react the Grignard reagent, accompanied via way of means of hydrolysis, to produce 3 Nitrobenzoic acid, as illustrated below:
