Harmful effects of microorganisms:

  1. Microorganisms are minute organisms that can be seen only under a microscope.
  2. A microorganism that can infect a host and cause disease is referred to as a pathogenic microorganism.
  3. They are of five main types: viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protozoa
  4. Some bacteria and fungus cause food spoilage.

Bacteria:

  1. Human diseases like cholera, pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), typhoid, and many more can be brought on by specific types of bacteria.
  2. For example - Typhoid is caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi.
  3. People suffering from typhoid usually have a high fever.

Fungi:

  1. It causes a variety of illnesses in both plants and animals, including rust diseases in plants, fruit rot in apples, red rot in sugar cane and ring worm disease in human beings.
  2. A rash is the predominant sign of ringworm. The skin tone will determine whether it appears red, silver, or darker than the surrounding skin.

Protozoa:

  1. It causes amoebic dysentery, pyorrhoea, sleeping sickness, etc.
  2. For example - Amoebic dysentery is caused by Entamoeba histolytica.
  3. Abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fatigue. Excessive gas, etc., are some of the symptoms of amoebic dysentery.

Viruses:

  1. It causes chickenpox, herpes, Influenza, AIDS, Measles, cold, etc.
  2. For example - Chickenpox is caused by the varicella-zoster virus. (VZV)
  3. A rash that develops into itchy, fluid-filled blisters that eventually become scabs is the typical sign of chickenpox.
