Solution

IUPAC name:

  • IUPAC name is a worldwide name for chemical compounds.
  • It follows certain rules for naming the compounds.

Step 1:Find the root word:

  • It s a cyclic six-membered unsaturated compound that is benzene.

Step 2: Finding the functional group and positioning:

  • The functional groups present here are amine, alcohol and acid.
  • According to alphabetical order amine group should be written first and then the hydroxy group, the acid is the first priority group. So, it should be written wth the root word.
  • According to the Guidelines set by IUPAC, the priority list of the functional group can be given as:

-COOH>-SO3H>-COOR(R=alkylgroup)>-COCl>-CONH2>-CN>-HC=O>>C=O>-OH>-NH2>>C=C<>-CC-

  • From the above example, the priority order of functional groups is

COOH>OH>NH2

  • The numbering starts with a hydroxy group having the position of four and an amino group in the second position.

Step 3: Adding prefix and suffix:

  • The primary suffix is -ene and the secondary suffix is -oic acid.
  • The prefix is benz-
  • Thus, the IUPAC name is 2-Amino- 4 – Hydroxybenzoic acid
2- Amino- 4 - Hydroxybenzoic acid
