Question

Zinc sulfate forms a colorless solution in water. Will you observe any colour on adding copper turning in it?

Open in App
Solution

Reactivity of Copper and Zinc:

  • Copper(Cu) has a lower reactivity than zinc(Zn).
  • As a result, copper does not replace zinc in the zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) solution.
  • So, the reaction will not take place.

Chemical Reaction:

  • ZnSO4(aq)+Cu(s)Noreactioncolourless

Hence, there will be no color change in the Zinc sulfate solution after adding copper to it.
