Solution

The correct option is C

Step 1. Given Data,

A ring is hung on a nail oscillate, without slipping or sliding

JEE Main 2020 Paper With Solutions Physics Shift 2 5th Sept Q1

i In its plane with a time period T1 and,

ii Back and forth in a direction perpendicular to its plane, with a periodT2.

Let the radius of ring is R and mass is M.

Step 2. We have to find the ratio of T1T2,

We know that,

T=2Ï€IMgd (where, T is time period, I is moment of Inertia, M is mass,

g is gravity and d is distance .)

Now, in its plane with a time period T1,

T1=2πI1Mgd⇒T1=2π2MR2Mgd

Now, back and forth in a direction perpendicular to its plane, with a periodT2

T2=2πI2Mgd⇒T2=2πMR22+MR2Mgd⇒T2=2π3MR22Mgd

Therefore,

T1T2=2π2MR2Mgd2π3MR22Mgd⇒T1T2=2MR23MR22⇒T1T2=4MR23MR2⇒T1T2=23

Hence, option C is correct.
