Solution

Definition of Ore:

  1. It is defined as a naturally occurring rock composed of different metal or metal compounds in such an amount that its extraction is profitable.
  2. Example: Cinnabar (HgS) - ore of mercury, Zinc Blende (ZnS) - ore of zinc.

Definition of Mineral:

  1. It can be defined as a naturally occurring chemical substance that has specific elements and has highly ordered atomic arrangement.
  2. Example: Calcite(CaCO3), Quartz(SiO2).

Explanation:

  1. So, yes, we can say that all ores are minerals, but all minerals cannot be called ores it is because some minerals contain unwanted impurities such as stones, sand, earthly impurities, that decreases the percentage of metal in it and thus extraction is not profitable.
  2. Example: Cinnabar is an ore as well as a mineral of mercury.
