Question

What is the relation between resistance and resistivity?

Open in App
Solution

Relation between resistance and resistivity:

  1. Current is the aggregate flow of electrons through a wire and can be defined as the rate of electron flow. Resistance is defined as an opposition to current flow.
  2. Electrical resistivity is a fundamental property of a material that measures how strongly it resists electric current. A low resistivity indicates a material that readily allows electric current. Resistivity is commonly represented by the Greek letter ρ.
  3. R=ρl/A, where ρis the resistivity, A is the cross sectional area and, l is the length of the conductor.
  4. Resistance is directly proportional to the resistivity.
