Question

What is the scope of thermodynamics?

Open in App
Solution

Thermodynamics:

  1. It is the key branch of both chemistry and physics in which the study of relation between heat, temperature and other forms of energy in a system are discussed.
  2. It gives the description of the only large-scale body (macroscopic bodies).

Scope of thermodynamics:

It is used in a vast range of science and engineering streams such as:

  1. Under a given set of temperature, pressure, and concentration conditions, it shows whether a particular physical or chemical change is possible.
  2. It also supports forecasting how far a physical or chemical change can proceed before reaching equilibrium situations.
  3. The typical use of thermodynamics can be seen by civil engineers to determine how much heat goes inside a house through the winter in summer or how much shielding a house requires in winters.
