Are humans part of the food chain?

Open in App
Solution

Food chain

  1. A food chain is a simple depiction of the flow of energy throughout the ecosystem among different organisms.
  2. It starts with the strata of producers which produce energy through photosynthesis and subsequently moves forward to higher levels of consumers.
  3. All living organisms in the ecosystem are part of the food chain.

Humans

  1. Humans belong to consumers and can obtain energy from both plants and animals.
  2. The flow of energy is always unidirectional and is transferred from one trophic level to the other and it cycles through the ecosystem.
  3. Humans are considered secondary consumers. They obtain their food from producers (plants) and other animals (herbivores and consumers)
