Do Gymnosperms have chlorophyll?

Open in App
Solution

Gymnosperms:

Unlike angiosperms, or flowering plants, whose seeds are enclosed by fully developed ovaries, or fruits, gymnosperms, or any vascular plant, reproduce by the use of an exposed seed, or ovule.

Chlorophyll:

Plants get their green hue from a pigment called chlorophyll, which also aids in photosynthesis, which is how plants make their own food.

  1. Chlorophyll is found in all gymnosperms.
  2. The major photosynthetic pigment present in the chloroplast is chlorophyll.
  3. All gymnosperms have chlorophyll which is larger than that found in crop plants, whereas deciduous trees have intermediate-sized units.
  4. Some gymnosperms and lower vascular plants have the ability to synthesize chlorophyll in the dark.

Gymnosperms have chlorophyll.
