Do Prokaryotes grow?

Open in App
Solution

Binary fission

  1. Binary fission is asexual reproduction in which the body is split into two new bodies.
  2. Binary fission occurs when an organism copies its genetic material, or deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and then divides into two sections (cytokinesis), each obtaining one copy of DNA.
  3. Unicellular creatures without a nuclear membrane are known as prokaryotic cells.
  4. Prokaryotes grow to a specific size and then divide (reproduce) using a process known as binary fission.
  5. Prokaryotes lack some cell organelles such as mitochondria and lysosomes.
