  1. In the nucleus, each cell has a DNA molecule packed in a thread-like structure known as a chromosome.
  2. DNA has tightly coiled around a structure a protein known as histones.
  3. The chromosome has a center constriction known as the centromere.
  4. Each chromosome has different genes and a specific part genome.
  5. Each chromosome is a single molecule of DNA.
  6. For example, the genome for alpha globin, a part of hemoglobin, is found on chromosome 16 whereas the beta-globin is found on chromosome 11.
