Gut biome:

  1. There are numerous microorganisms present in the digestive tract of humans. They are known as gut flora.
  2. They include bacteria, archaea, and fungi.
  3. The caecum contains the maximum amount of microorganisms.
  4. The major bacterial divisions that dominate the gut microbiota are Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria.
  5. They help in the digestion of complex carbohydrates and also synthesize vitamins and amino acids.
  6. Methanogens are present in the gut of ruminant animals, they are used to produce methane (biogas) from the excreta of these animals.

If you experience the following symptoms, your gut biome may not be healthy:

  1. Diarrhea: Diarrhoea is a condition where an individual experiences a high frequency of loose and watery stools
  2. Loose stools
  3. Gas and bloating: Bloating is when your belly feels swollen after eating
  4. Abdominal pain
  5. Constipation: Constipation is a condition of irregular and difficult bowel movement characterized by hardened feces.
  6. Fatigue - tiredness
  7. Unintentional weight changes
  8. Skin irritation
