Solution

Classification of flowers:

  1. Classification as per the Morphology of Flowers –
    1. Polypetalous (apopetalous, choripetalous) - Petals are distinct. eg: Hibiscus.
    2. Sympetalous (gamopetalous) - Petals are fused. eg: Datura
    3. Actinomorphic - Radially symmetric, i.e., the flower can be divided into 2 equal halves through any plane of symmetry. eg: Brassica
    4. Zygomorphic - Bilaterally symmetric, i.e., the flower can be divided into 2 equal halves through one plane of symmetry. eg: Clitoria ternatea
  2. Classification of flowers based on their position on the branch
    1. Terminal - Flower located at the apex of the stem or shoot. e g: Uraria lagopodioides
    2. Axillary - Flower located in or arising from leaf axils. eg: Cullen leucanthum
  3. Classification based on Flower Branches, Clusters, and Inflorescence
    1. Cluster - Borne together on different branches. eg: orchids, onions
    2. Single flower - Each flower is borne individually. eg: sunflower, rose
    3. Inflorescence - Borne together on the same branch. eg: Alfalfa
  4. Classification Based on Blossom
    1. Perennial - Live for many years and thus bloom many times. eg: purple coneflower, daylily
    2. Biennial - Bloom once in two years. eg: beets, parsley, carrots
    3. Annual - Bloom once a year. eg: Marigold, begonia
