Flowers are classified into different categories based on their physical features, such as:

Complete and incomplete flower:

  1. A flower in which all four whorls are present is called a complete flower.
  2. For example, hibiscus, sweet potato, and datura.
  3. Flowers missing one or more whorls are called incomplete flowers.
  4. Examples are cucumber, gourd, and papaya.

Unisexual flowers and bisexual flowers.

  1. Flowers that have only stamens or pistils, that is, in which either stamens or carpels are present, are unisexual.
  2. Examples of unisexual flowers are bitter melon, papaya, gourd, and cucumber.
  3. Flowers with both male and female reproductive organs are bisexual flowers in which both stamens and carpels are present in the same flower.
  4. Examples of bisexual flowers are roses, sunflowers, hibiscus, lilies, and mustard.

Seeds bearing or non-seeds bearing flowers.

  1. Seed-forming plants belong to spermatids. Seed-producing plants include gymnosperms and angiosperms.
  2. Seed-producing plants require the maintenance of megasporangium.
  3. Ferns do not produce seeds.
