Open in App
Solution

Codon:

  1. Codon is a trinucleotide sequence present on the mRNA template.
  2. It codes for a specific amino acid at the time of translation or polypeptide chain formation.
  3. The four nucleotides are represented by the letter A, U, G and C.
  4. Each sequence of 3 nucleotides is unique for each amino acid.

Reading a codon table:

  1. A codon table can be used to translate a genetic code into a sequence of amino acids.
  2. In the codon table, the left column represents the first base, the top row represents the middle base and the right column is for the third base.
  3. 64 codons can be sequenced in total: 61 codons code for amino acids and 3 are stop codons.
