Open in App
Solution

Archegonia:

  1. The female reproductive organs in ferns and mosses are known as archegonium.
  2. It is the gametophyte stage of these plants.
  3. The archegonium (plural archegonia) produces eggs for sexual reproduction.
  4. They are closed structures located on the thallus (vegetative tissue) of the plant.
  5. The egg is protected as it is completely retained inside the archegonium.
  6. The fertilization (fusion of male and female gamete to produce the zygote) process also occurs inside the archegonium.
  7. The zygote derives its nutrition from the gametophytic tissue.
