  1. The process by which a water body becomes enriched in minerals and nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus is called eutrophication.
  2. It leads to algal bloom.
  3. The toxins from these algae accumulate in fish and other kinds of seafood.
  4. On being eaten by human beings, these toxins enter our bodies.
  5. As a result of these toxins, human beings are affected by various kinds of gastrointestinal and dermatological diseases.
  6. Apart from this, eutrophication also leads to the depletion of potable water.
