Open in App
Solution

Pyruvate enter the mitochondria

  1. The "powerhouses" of the cell are frequently referred to as mitochondria.
  2. They assist in converting the energy we receive from meals into energy the cell can utilize.
  3. Pyruvate produced in the cytoplasm as a result of glycolysis enters mitochondria via active transport by the pyruvate translocase carrier protein.
  4. Pyruvate is transported into the mitochondria by the transport protein pyruvate translocase.
  5. Pyruvate translocase is active and consumes energy because it transports pyruvate in a symport fashion with a proton.
  6. When pyruvate enters the mitochondria, it is decarboxylated, producing acetyl-CoA.
