Solution
Respiratory system:
Respiratory system includes all the organs that help in taking the oxygen from the environment into the body and releasing the carbon dioxide from the body into the external environment.
Respiratory system in humans:
The respiratory system of humans includes the nasal chamber, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs and diaphragm.
As we take the air into the nasal chamber it passes through the respiratory pathway and enters the lungs. This is called inhalation.
The alveoli of the lungs are filled with air. Now, oxygen is diffused into the blood present in capillaries surrounding the alveoli .
And carbon dioxide present in this blood is diffused into the alveoli.
The carbon-dioxide rich air is then passed through the respiratory path and released outside the body.
This is called exhalation.
During inhalation, the lungs move upwards and outwards and the diaphragm contracts and flattens.
During exhalation, the lungs move downwards and inwards and the diaphragm relaxes back into its dome shape.
