Question

How many ATP does NADH produce?

Open in App
Solution

NADH (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate):

  1. In prokaryotic cells, one molecule of NADH generates molecules of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate).
  2. On every electron pair transmitted to the electron transport chain in eukaryotes, 2 - 3 ATP molecules are created per NADH molecule.
  3. For a variety of reasons, determining the exact ATP yield for aerobic respiration is difficult.
  4. The amount of ATP produced per unit of NADH is not necessarily a full number.
