In which embryonic stage does implantation take place?

Open in App
Solution

Implantation

  1. An embryo goes through a phase of rapid change after conception known as the embryonic stage.
  2. This stage lasts from the fifth to the ninth week of pregnancy.
  3. The infant is referred to as an embryo at this point.
  4. Through a variety of internal modifications, the uterine lining (endometrium) gets ready for the growing blastocyst to attach to it.
  5. Without these modifications, implantation will not take place, and the embryo will be shed throughout the menstrual cycle.
  6. The implantation of an embryo to the endometrial uterine wall occurs at the blastocyst stage of embryonic development.
  7. The blastomeres are organized in the blastocyst into an exterior layer termed trophoblast and an interior mass of cells connected to the trophoblast.
