Question

Is burping a sign of a heart attack?

Open in App
Solution

Burping:

  1. Burping, also called belching, is the body's way of getting rid of extra air in your upper digestive tract.
  2. The majority of belching is caused by swallowing too much air.
  3. This air rarely reaches the stomach and instead accumulates in the esophagus.
  4. Burping is usually not a sign of a heart attack.
  5. However, other symptoms associated with belching (such as chest discomfort, tightness and bloating, shortness of breath, and sudden malaise) can be a heart attack.
