Question

Is human prokaryotic?

Open in App
Solution

Prokaryotes:

  1. They are organisms that do not have proper cellular organization i.e they lack cellular organelles and a nucleus.
  2. They include the bacteria in this group.
  3. Though these cells do not have a nucleus they do have DNA or RNA in them.
  4. These genetic materials present in the cell helps in the different function of the cell.
  5. They help in replication as well as carry genetic material.
  6. In prokaryotes, the DNA is arranged in the irregular-shaped region known as the nucleoid.
  7. Hence we can say that prokaryotes can survive without a nucleus.
  8. Examples of prokaryotes include cyanobacteria, E. coli, mycoplasma etc.
  9. No, humans are not prokaryotic.
  10. They are eukaryotic.

Eukaryotic cells:

  1. They are generally present in both plants & animals.
  2. Eukaryotic cells also have the nucleus enclosed within the nuclear membrane & form large and complex organisms.
  3. The features of eukaryotic cells are also as follows:
    1. Eukaryotic cells have the nucleus enclosed within the nuclear membrane.
    2. The cell has mitochondria.
    3. Flagella & the cilia are locomotory organs in a eukaryotic cell.
    4. A cell wall is the outermost layer of eukaryotic cells.
    5. The eukaryotic cells also contain a cytoskeletal structure.
    6. The nucleus contains a single, linear DNA, which generally carries all the genetic information. Eg: Protista, plant cells, and human cells.
