The biological polymers that catalyse biochemical reactions are termed enzymes.

Features of an enzyme:

  1. Enzymes are made up of proteins that are the polymers of amino acids.
  2. The enzyme’s active site is referred as a cleft or a pocket where the substrate molecule comes and binds and undergoes several chemical reactions to be converted into a product.
  3. Enzymes usually requires an optimum temperature (37 degrees Celsius) and pH (5-7) for their action.
