Sclerotomes

  1. In the ventromedial portion of the somite, there is a temporary embryonic tissue called the sclerotome, which is made up of pluripotent mesenchymal stem cells.
  2. Induced by the neural tube and chord, sclerotome gives rise to vertebrae, bones, and cartilage.

Myotomes

  1. A myotome is a collection of muscles with a single spinal nerve root innervating them.
  2. All skeletal muscles are derived from the myotome, a segment of the somite in the middle.
