  1. Colour blindness is a genetic disorder that causes a disability to visualize a certain spectrum of colors.
  2. It is X linked recessive disorder.
  3. Males are more affected by this disorder as compared to females.
  4. Colour blindness can be of the following types:
  • Red-green color blindness:
  1. In this type of color blindness, the red and green spectrum of visible colors are affected the most.
  2. This is the most common type of color blindness.
  • Blue-yellow color blindness:
  1. Blue-yellow color blindness is also called tritanopia.
  2. This color blindness makes it difficult to tell the difference between yellow and red.
  • Complete color blindness or monochromacy:
  1. This is the rarest type of color blindness.
  2. In monochromacy, only one type of light can be visualized and this is called complete color blindness.
  3. This occurs due to complete absence of the functional cone photo pigments.
