Question

What are the external factors affecting photosynthesis?

Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis

The process through which plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into oxygen and sugar energy is known as photosynthesis.

External factors affecting photosynthesis:

  1. Carbon dioxide - An increase in carbon dioxide concentration can speed up photosynthesis.
  2. The rate of photosynthesis is affected by the intensity and quality of light.
  3. The temperature has an impact on photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is temperature sensitive because high temperatures cause enzymes to become inactive.
  4. Photosynthesis requires aeration. Oxygen is required in small amounts for electron transport.
  5. Nitrogen also affects the photosynthetic rate.
  6. Pollutants in the air reduce the photosynthetic rate.
  7. Soil, pH, and other climatic factors all play a role.
