What are the main causes of algal blooms?

Solution

Algal blooms

  1. When the population of algae in freshwater or marine water systems rapidly rises or accumulates, it is referred to as an algal bloom.
  2. The term "dead zone" refers to portions of water bodies where aquatic life is unable to exist due to low oxygen levels.
  3. Because they acquire extra nutrients from upstream sources, dead zones are primarily a problem for bays, lakes, and coastal waters.
  4. Excess nitrogen and phosphorus generate algae blooms, which result in an algae overgrowth in a short amount of time.
  5. The oxygen in the water is depleted when the algae eventually die.
