Question

What does the step isolation of gene and preparation in genetic engineering include?

Open in App
Solution

Genetic engineering: It is a process that uses techniques to alter the DNA makeup of an organism.

This may involve changing a single base pair (A-T or C-G), deleting a region of DNA, or adding a new segment of DNA.

The steps involved in Genetic Engineering are as follows:

  1. The isolation of DNA fragments or genes from a donor organism;
  2. The insertion of an isolated donor DNA fragment into a vector genome and
  3. The growth of a recombinant vector in an appropriate host.
  4. DNA extraction or Gene Isolation is the first step in the genetic engineering process.
  5. This is accomplished by taking a sample of bacteria containing the gene of interest and taking it through a series of steps that separate the DNA from the other parts of a cell.
  6. Applications of Genetic engineering include medicine, research, industry, and agriculture and can be used on a wide range of plants, animals, and microorganisms
