Plasmodium:

  1. A plasmodium is a protozoan and is a vegetative phase of slime molds.
  2. The plasmodium of a slime mold is formed by the fusion of gametes.
  3. Under unfavorable conditions, the Plasmodium differentiates to form fruit bodies bearing spores at their tips.
  4. These spores have cell walls made of cellulose and are found to be resistant to extreme conditions which allows them to survive for many years.
  5. The spores are released and dispersed by air currents, which are followed by their germination in wet and moist places.
