  2. Kidneys produce hormones like adrenomedullin, endothelin, prostaglandin, and erythropoietin.

Hormones that target the kidneys:

  1. The chemical substances secreted from various parts of the body transfer messages to cells in different parts of the human body are known as hormones.
  2. Hormones that target the kidneys are aldosterone, atrial natriuretic factor and antidiuretic hormone (ADH).
  3. Aldosterone: It stimulates the reabsorption of water and sodium and the excretion of sodium and potassium ions.
  4. Atrial natriuretic factor: It stimulates the excretion of water and sodium ions.
  5. Antidiuretic hormone (ADH): It stimulates the reabsorption of water from the distal tubules. ADH also prevents diuresis.
