What is a replication bubble?

Open in App
Solution

DNA replication:

  1. The process of synthesizing two new copies of DNA molecules from a single copy of DNA is called DNA replication.
  2. The first step in DNA replication involves the unwinding of Double-stranded DNA into single strands by enzyme helicase.
  3. Helicase unwinds DNA from a small section of DNA called the origin of replication (from where replication of DNA starts).

Replication bubble:

  1. It is an unwound open region of the DNA helix from where the replication of DNA occurs.
  2. DNA polymerase keeps on adding nucleotides to unwound strands of DNA.
  3. The replication bubble is assumed like a zipper that is unzipped in the middle forming a little open bubble-like structure.
