Plasmogamy:

1. The fusion of the protoplasm without involving the fusion of their nuclei is known as plasmogamy.
2. It leads to formation of a phase known as dikaryotic phase.
3. This phase persists for sometime in higher fungi.
4. This stage is immediately followed by karyogamy in lower fungi.
