  1. Dysmenorrhea is a condition in which you experience severe and frequent menstrual cramps and agony.
  2. It can be primary, indicating it's been present since the beginning of your period, or secondary, indicating it is caused by an underlying condition.

Primary dysmenorrhea

  1. This begins when you first get your period and lasts your entire life.
  2. It usually lasts forever.
  3. Strong and atypical uterine contractions, can produce frequent and severe menstrual cramping.

Causes for dysmenorrhea

  1. The cramping pain that occurs before or during a period is referred to as primary dysmenorrhea.
  2. Natural molecules called prostaglandins, which also are generated in the uterine lining, induce this pain.
  3. The uterus' muscles and blood vessels contract as a product of prostaglandins.
