Question

What is prokaryotic and eukaryotic?

Open in App
Solution

Prokaryotic:

  1. Prokaryotes are organisms made up of cells that lack a cell nucleus or any membrane-encased organelles.
  2. This means the genetic material DNA in prokaryotes is not bound within a nucleus. Additionally, the DNA is less structured in prokaryotes than in eukaryotes.
  3. In prokaryotes, DNA is a single circular form.
  4. Prokaryotes are split into two groups: bacteria and archaea, each of which has its own evolutionary path, according to biologists.

Eukaryotic:

  1. Eukaryotes are organisms made up of cells that possess a membrane-bound nucleus (that holds genetic material) as well as membrane-bound organelles.
  2. Genetic material in eukaryotes is contained within a nucleus within the cell and DNA is organized into chromosomes.
  3. Eukaryotic organisms may be multicellular or single-celled organisms.
  4. All animals are eukaryotes. Other eukaryotes include plants, fungi, and protists.
